The last Gutenberg update brought great new features, especially for plugin developers. Also, preparations are already underway for the last major update of the year, which will again include a new default theme
Release Gutenberg 19.1
The latest Gutenberg update includes the plugin template registration, a long-awaited feature, especially for developers, which will later be included in the new WordPress version 6.7.
Plugin Template Registration API
In relation with custom post types and taxonomies, among other things, plugin developers have always faced the challenge of conflicts between themes and plugins. We at Greyd are also familiar with this, as the Greyd.Suite also consists of a theme & plugin(s). With the long-awaited API, templates can now be registered directly from a plugin and integrated via PHP so that they can be used in the Site Editor.
The new function has no direct impact on end users for the time being. However, it may open up new possibilities for the UX of our Greyd.Suite Dynamic Post Types. We will keep you up to date on this.

New WordPress Default Theme
At the end of the year, WordPress users can not only look forward to the next major update, but traditionally also to a new default theme. Preparations for this are already in full swing. The first insights into the concept and design of the new theme were recently published. WordPress users can once again look forward to many new patterns and styles that can be used to quickly and easily put together a wide variety of pages. Several blog templates are also included. Of course, the new default theme is once again a block theme, i.e. it uses the full site editing functions and is 100% compatible with Greyd.Suite.

Further updates
With the latest Gutenberg updates, further small improvements have been introduced that will be part of the upcoming WP release, including among others
- Optimizations for the query loop
- Automatic conversion of images in HEIC format to JPG
- Border support for some additional blocks
- Changes to the image caption styles
The latest minor update of WordPress (6.2.2) primarily provides bug fixes.
We at Greyd are also working on reporting the following core issues that Greyd users are also experiencing and supporting the core team with feedback and suggestions so that they can hopefully be solved with the upcoming WordPress update:
- Users often find the pattern modal, which appears every time a new page is created, annoying. We have therefore submitted a design proposal to hide the modal.
- Templates with full width are not displayed as such in the Post Editor if the post content is within a group.
- CSS variable support for custom gradient picker
