From 2024 to 2025: Strategy, Technology, and Product Evolution

In 2024, Greyd scaled globally, boosted FSE adoption, and forged key partnerships. In 2025, we’ll focus on innovation, efficiency, and collaboration to drive agency success.

The beginning of the year is the perfect time to reflect on where we’ve been and where we’re heading.

This year was pivotal for us at Greyd, as we dealt with a rapidly changing landscape in the WordPress ecosystem. I’d like to share some insights into our progress and plans across three key areas: strategy, technology, and product.

Strategy: Beyond Boundaries

In 2024, our focus was clear: evolve our product while positioning ourselves as partners for agencies working on complex, large-scale systems. Our aim was not to be “just another WordPress tool” but to become a critical ally, enabling agencies to scale their operations effectively.

We achieved this through strategic investments:

  • Expanding expertise: Bringing on top talent like Jessica Lyschik, a Gutenberg Core Contributor, to strengthen our Full Site Editing (FSE) capabilities.
  • Enhancing customer service: Not just improving support but embedding ourselves as partners in our clients’ successes.
  • Showcasing use cases: Projects like that of 250 franchise websites highlighted how smaller agencies can take on ambitious franchise systems using our tools.

Additionally, we’ve expanded our reach through strategic event participation. We’re investing in both WordPress community events, such as WordCamp Europe 2024, but also events like the CloudFest Hackathon, and major business-focused events. This dual approach reflects our understanding that while the WordPress community remains vital, many successful agencies operate primarily outside the traditional WordPress bubble. By engaging in broader business events, we’re connecting with agencies who need enterprise-scale WordPress solutions but may not be deeply embedded in the WordPress community.

The Guildenberg Partnership: Driving Strategic Growth

One of the highlights of 2024 was our partnership with Guildenberg, a collaborative network designed to connect forward-thinking businesses within the WordPress ecosystem. Guildenberg is much more than a networking platform. It’s a strategic enabler. By fostering partnerships that go beyond surface-level integrations, Guildenberg helps companies like ours craft a shared vision for growth.

For Greyd, Guildenberg has been transformative in several ways:

  1. Strategic Business Opportunities: They don’t just connect companies; they align them based on shared business goals. This has opened up partnerships with companies we wouldn’t have engaged with otherwise. Companies that understand the potential of automation, large-scale systems, and scalable web solutions.
  2. Product Development Insights: Guildenberg’s collaborative model brings product-focused feedback into sharper view. Leaders like Tammie Lister and Jonathan Wold at Guildenberg have challenged us to refine our USPs, ensuring that our tools cater to a wide range of customer needs without losing focus.
  3. Global Expansion: Historically, we’ve been a primarily European-focused company. Through Guildenberg, we’ve begun to explore opportunities in the United States, where franchises, multi-level marketing systems, and large-scale web systems dominate. The sheer scale of these markets presents a huge opportunity, and Guildenberg’s network has already begun paving the way for meaningful connections.

In 2025, we plan to deepen this partnership, leveraging Guildenberg’s strategic insights and connections to scale our operations globally.

Technology: The Critical Shift

The evolution of FSE and Gutenberg represents more than just a technical upgrade. It’s a fundamental shift in how agencies need to approach web development. While many users and agencies remain hesitant, either clinging to outdated tools or struggling with the learning curve, 2025 is the crucial year to make the transition.

We see two core issues:

  1. Adoption gaps: Agencies often lack the skills or resources to transition to modern tools like FSE.
  2. Expectation management: There’s a disconnect between what new technologies promise and how they’re perceived.

The analogy I often use is that of electric cars. Just as early adopters struggled with recharging logistics, agencies must navigate the shift from traditional design processes to dynamic, block-based systems. This is where we come in, working to make these transitions seamless and intuitive.

This technological shift follows a predictable pattern, much like the transition to electric vehicles. There’s a critical intersection point where new technology surpasses the old in terms of overall benefits. While early adopters might face initial challenges, waiting too long to transition can be far more costly. The key is to be ready when this crossover point arrives, which we believe is approaching rapidly in 2025.

Economic Realities

The past year has brought significant challenges to many agencies, especially in Germany, including some long-term Greyd users. These economic pressures have forced some agencies to close their doors, highlighting a crucial truth: in today’s market, efficiency and automation aren’t just nice-to-have features – they’re survival tools.

This economic reality reinforces the importance of investing in the right technology stack. When agencies compete globally using the same tools, the key differentiator becomes efficiency and scalability. It’s no longer enough to rely on traditional approaches when competitors worldwide are leveraging advanced tools and automation to deliver faster, more cost-effective solutions.

Product: The Road Ahead

In 2025, our product development will focus on one overarching goal: enhancing user productivity. Whether it’s a developer creating custom APIs or a marketing team updating content, we aim to streamline workflows and reduce repetitive tasks.

Here’s how:

  • User-centric design: Improving UX/UI for all users in the Site Editor / Full Site Editing experience, from beginner editors to seasoned developers. We’re planning this as a big project, actively involving the WordPress community. Something you will soon hear more about from us!
  • Automation: Empowering users to leverage automation for large-scale projects, saving both time and costs.
  • Scalability: Supporting clients as they grow, especially for multi-site projects and franchises.

One exciting milestone is the ability to lower per-unit costs in large-scale projects. For example, we’ve enabled franchise clients to launch hundreds of interconnected websites with costs as low as €120 per site, an unprecedented value that showcases the scalability of our platform.

Looking ahead

This year, the landscape demands strategic adaptation and innovation. Economic pressures will continue to push agencies and businesses to be more strategic with their investments, making efficiency and automation more critical than ever.

Our roadmap for 2025 includes:

  • Technology Leadership, driving the adoption of modern WordPress technologies, particularly in FSE and Gutenberg implementations.
  • Increase our presence at global events, reaching beyond the WordPress community.
  • Drive innovation in product design and automation, developing new automation tools and workflows that help agencies compete effectively in a global market.
  • Partnership expansion, deepening our collaboration with strategic partners while exploring new relationships that align with our vision for scalable, efficient WordPress solutions.
  • Double down on productivity enhancement, helping agencies reduce costs and improve profitability.

The future is bright, but only if we continue to adapt and innovate. Let’s make 2025 a year of growth and success, together.
